What is the best eye drops for Blephartis?… by matt
I wear contacts, my prescription is so strong that I don't like wearing my glasses except when watching TV. I have been using Systane and Soothe, I like them both, but I was just wondering what eye drops are best for people with blephartis. Thanks.
Best Answer:
Blepharitis means “inflammation of the eyelid”. The most common type inflammation occurs associated with a chronic staphylococcal bacterial infection. But, blepharitis can be allergic or toxic in nature. So different drops might be best depending upon what is causing your inflammation.
Bacterial type blepharitis many times responds well to temporary us of topical eye drops such as Tobradex which contain both antibiotic and anti inflammatory drugs. Once the blepharitis is under control then daily lid hygiene tends to keep it under control. If it doesn't stay under control with lid hygiene then many times ongoing low dosage oral doxycyline usually does the job.
If the inflammation is allergic then oral antihistamines can be helpful. Also, topical antihistamines and anti inflammatories such as Acular can help with the initial inflammation along with ongoing use of an allergy drop call Patanol.
Toxic blepharitis requires the recognition of what has caused the toxicity and then removing it from your environment. Just as with allergy, short term anti inflammatory drops can get the inflammation under control Hope this helped.
