My two cats have an eye infection, Can I use tobramycin & dexamethazone opthalmic eyes drops on them?… by frankfortave18
It was antibiotics that I got for pink eye a couple of weeks ago.

Don't give them the dexamethazone as that is a steroid. Steroids can only be given after the eyes have been examined for any punctures or wounds on the eyes. If there has been then the steroids can explode the eyes.
The tobramycin sounds like it is related to Terramycin which is what we use in dogs, cats, horses, etc….for eye infections so that would be safe to use.
Since both of your cats have eye infections I would say your cats have some sort of viral thing going on. There are viral colds that the current available cat vaccines do not cover. The vet, if you are going to take them in, would need to see them as they are eye goop and all.
I would take their temperatures….fun it is not…and you really need two people…and let their temperatures decide whether or not they need to go in. Vaseline on the thermometer helps.
If they have no elevated temperatures then I would go ahead and treat their eyes with the tobramycin or Terramycin eye ointment.
I get my Terramycin eye ointment at the local feed store (much cheaper than the vets office). I keep many tubes on hand as I never know with dogs, cats, chickens, pigs, and horses just who might need (including myself) some stuff in their eyes.
Cats do get allergies to pollens so that could be what started this. More than likely there is something more going on if they haven't been vaccinated for distemper, feline leukemia, bortatella viruses, or FIP. All of these can have the same symptoms to one degree or another.
What would be your determining factors are body temp, other symptoms like coughing, wheezing, vomiting, no appetites, they don't want to play, etc….
IF they have none of these other symptoms and no elevated temps then I would treat the eyes an then go to the local feed store and buy the vaccines that they need and follow the directions on how to give them.
Veterinarians charge an astronomical amount for the series of vaccines per cat and you can do the same thing yourself for two cats for a $50.00 bill versus a $250.00 bill from the vet. I know they need to work too and they too have bills to pay but so do the rest of us.

What is the best medication and / or alternative treatment for ADHD in a 6yo?… by tripea
My son was diagnosed with ADHD today, finally. What is the best medication for this? I was looking at Vyvanse which has mild side effects and has been highly rated for it's effectiveness. Has anyone tried Vyvanse for their child?
Also, if you know of any alternative treatments or methods that work well along with medication, I am interested in these too.

My son has ADHD, and we have tried Adderall, and Focalin. The Adderall gave him heart palpitations and the focalin made him irritable. Most of them have some kind of side effect. Some are just worst than others. I am still trying to find the best medication. It is best to have him seen by a Neurologist or a Psychiatrist to help determine the best medication. All children respond differently . My Friend's son uses Concentra?( I think that is how to spell it) but anyway, she says he does fine on that. I know a guy who uses caffeine and Mountain Dew, since doctors say that some of the stimulants have caffeine in them. Caffeine speeds up regular people, but it slows down the brain of those who have ADHD. He says that he haven't had a problem since.
All I can say is get him to a specialist who deals with ADHD.

Blackhead Prevention
There are many things that you can do to prevent blackheads from appearing on your face. Most involve cleansing and some require the use of medications.
Avoid using creamy, greasy, and thick (emollient) products. This alone will greatly lessen your chances of sprouting blackheads.
Use a gentle and water-soluble cleanser.
DO NOT use bar soap!!! The ingredients that hold soap in a bar form can clog the pores in your skin. They can also cause skin cells to flake off prematurely and clog the pores. If you have dry skin you will need to use a cleanser that has a bit of moisturizer in it, but be careful! The excess moisturizers can cause an increase in oil on your skin.
Exfoliate to eliminate dead skin cells. If there are no skin cells to clog the pores, the natural oil is able to flow through freely. Exfoliation also removes the built up dead cells from inside the pores that cause them to become misshapen and more-easily clogged. Using an exfoliant that contains 1% or 2% beta hydroxy acids (BHA or Salicylic Acid) will penetrate the lining of the pore. If you are unable to use BHAs, you could use products containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), however these acids are only good for surface exfoliation because they do not penetrate the pore lining.
Absorb excess oil. If you have oily skin, try using a clay mask that does not contain mint, peppermint or other irritating ingredients. This will absorb the oil that may clog the poor. If you have dry skin, this is not necessary because pimples on dry skin are caused by oil inside the pore, not on the surface of the skin. Also, oil-absorbing papers may help to reduce the oil in your pores.
Visit your dermatologist. Retinoids, which are a form of Vitamin A, can help regulate the pore shape which will keep oil flowing normally. The most common retinoids are tretinoin and adapalene, found in prescriptions such as Avita, Renova, Retin-A, Tazorac, and Differin.
Other medications. Hormone blockers and low-dose birth control pills can lower levels of androgens (the male hormone) and Accutane should be discussed with your physician in severe cases of oily skin and breakouts.

I'd agree with the guess of doxycycline, for two reasons. First, it is sometimes prescribed for pneumonia. Second, acne is generally treated with a tetracycline, usually minocycline, doxycycline, or sometimes tetracycline itself. The only one that starts with a D is doxycycline.
You can buy it with a prescription from your doctor. My teenaged daughter pretty much lives on minocycline.

My position is that unless it is vital, prescription medications should be avoided at all costs, and should be used only over short periods to treat specific conditions when absolutely necessary and only if there are no natural alternatives!
All medications have side-effects! Unfortunately, for many medications on the market, the side-effects are often little known, not studied in depth and under-reported by patients. Be wary of new medications that are on the market, as long-term studies often have not been done. Because it's in the medical and pharmaceutical industry's best interest to make sure people don't know about side-effects, chances are there are many you aren't aware of for Reclipsen, and the information can be difficult to find.
Try to monitor the side-effects you are noticing, keep track of them, and decide whether or not it is worth going through that to treat the condition that the medication is for.
Remember that medications are chemical mixes that you are putting into your body and aside from the side-effects you are noticing, there could be other things happening in your body that you may not even be aware of, such as liver damage or stomach ulcers.
If you are worried you can try to gradually wean yourself off the medication and replace it with a herbal supplement that will have significantly less impact on your body!
Talk to your doctor about this. If your doctor is not supportive of your choice to quit meds, or tries to minimize the importance of side-effects that are truly bothering you, consult a homeopath.

If its a manual I wouldn't be too worried. If its a 5 speed steptronic its better than the regular automatic, but it is STILL inferior to a manual unless you drive in jams all the time.
Anyway, outside supercharger kits, bang for bucks include a differential ratio swop, an M50 intake manifold, a big, bore throttle body, performance spark plugs, great tires, having the vanos seals checked. I am sure there are more things to do that will be unearthed as you ask the fanatics.
But you don't just buy a BMW for speed, remember that. Many forget this, I'm amongst them. 
Many cheaper cars do a much better power : weight. Outside suicidal driving, BMW is eminently more agile and bouncy than most sedans – hence a higher fun factor.

How long does it take for Benzaclin to work?… by vince
I've been putting on Benzaclin on my face and back for a month, but i don't really seem to notice any changes. It seems like all the acne is still there and not disapearing.

When I started to take Benzaclin, it took my face a week, give or take, to get used to it. A month seems pretty long for your skin to get acclimated to Benzaclin. You should see your dermatologist and ask him or her.

How would you managed yourself during asthma attacks?… by a_joem
have you experienced the symptoms more than an hour or more despite you've taken you medication?
in my case, i've inhaled my daily maintenance of seritide, and after an hour i've inhaled the ventolin rotacap..and ventolin the next hour since am still experiencing same symptoms…
any advice?

Being a paramedic and an asthmatic I can help here. With my asthma, If i feel i'm short of breath and tight in the chest i take a few puff off my ventolin and then put my hands on my head, try to stay calm and relax and control my breathing. If that doen't work its more ventolin and hands back on the head. If that doesn't work then its on the phone to the ambulance before its too late. Now the reason for the hands on the head is that it helps expand your lungs. So next time try it and let me know how it goes.
Now being a paramedic I would say at any [point that you med dont work you need to call us as it could become life threatening especially if you've been In ICU before with asthma.
